TELLING OUR STORIES:
A Writing Workshop

Many people have wonderful stories to tell, but don’t know where to start or how to organize thoughts into writing. This workshop is perfect for people who love to talk about ‘back in the day’ when they were growing up.

We’ll write vignettes—short memory pieces of a page or two—focusing on historical events we’ve lived through, perhaps the choices we’ve made, and the wisdom we’ve garnered from a life well-lived. You’ll learn how to identify the universal themes in your life and the details that matter. While sharing is encouraged, it is never a requirement.

Afterwards you’ll have personal stories to share with family and friends, submit for publication, or shape into chapters for a book—maybe even take the true events and turn into fiction!
WORKSHOP LEADER
Joyce Boatright, EdD, is a writer, storyteller, teacher, and human being who finds this life journey an extraordinary experience. Her stories have been published in journals, newspapers, and anthologies and she is the author of Telling Your Story: A Basic Guide to Memoir Writing (2006).  A popular workshop facilitator since 1991, she knows how to inspire, guide, and encourage. Boatright is a Faculty Fellow at the Jung Center where she has taught journaling and memoir writing for over a decade. She resides in Houston.
