Many are not aware that sexual violence is common. It’s not often talked about, especially the exploitation of children. To stop this brutality, we cannot turn away. We must begin by discussing it. Lifetime Learning’s August 11th luncheon presents Natalie Shoup to begin this conversation.
 
Cruelty toward children is incomprehensible. Sadly, a mismatch exists between the reality of its magnitude, our awareness of the issue, and the resources dedicated to eradicate it.  Most current solutions are responding to urgent needs, but these efforts are limited by the rapidly changing nature of the problem. We can be heartened, however, to learn that awareness of sexual violence, and the foundations that work to prevent it, help combat this worldwide problem.
 
Natalie Shoup’s presentation will address sexual exploitation of children and young people in the United States, and specifically Texas. She will share statistics and stories, with short videos, to illustrate the problem and suggest solutions.

PRESENTER
Natalie Shoup is Industry & Data Lead for Safe Online Fund of End Violence, the only global fund dedicated to making the internet safe for children. She has an extensive background with organizations working to prevent victimization and perpetration of sexual violence, including Nest, Developing Minds Foundation, Data-Pop Alliance, and the MIT Media Lab and Overseas Development Institute.

Natalie has a BSE in Operations Research and Financial Engineering from Princeton University and recently completed a Master’s in Education and International Development at the University of Cambridge. She currently lives in New York City.
