WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS:  Unearthing the Secrets
Jonathan P. Failor, Texas Historical Commission
Picture
“My passion for history is taking what I’ve learned and bringing it to life for people”
Jonathan Failor
(as quoted by Luke Henkhaus in TX A&M Stories, 2024)

Sam Houston’s presidential office is revealed in the remains of a log cabin and a once thriving tavern is uncovered in the brick of a fireplace. How do these discoveries and 10,000 other artifacts answer questions of how an early Texas community flourished? And how it later evolved into an expanse of prairie?

Site Manager Jonathan Failor will share the exciting archeological work being done at the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site Complex. This historic renovation was funded in part by a $41 million appropriation by the Texas Legislature, thanks to the efforts of Brenham’s own Sen. Lois W. Kolkhorst.

Failor’s presentation should be of interest to both Texas aficionados and passing history enthusiasts.
